Asthma Care
Increasing numbers of people of all ages are suffering from asthma. Your clinician will make the initial diagnosis and explain your treatment. Our specially trained practice nurses and health care clinician will the ensure that the treatment is effective by checking inhaler techniques and measuring lung function regularly, referring to your doctor if necessary.

Cancer Patients
Patients with cancer care for in association with the hospital specialists and St Claires Hospice.

Cervical Smears
Cervical smears for women involve a simple quick test to check for changes which occur before cancer develops. We recommend that all women should have regular smear tests every three years or more often if required for medical reasons. All patients who are eligible for the test are sent for by letter. If you think that you are due a test and have not heard from us, please contact us and let us know. Our Practice Nurse carries out the test in the surgery.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Patients with COPD are advised to have a checkup at least annually to make sure they get the best treatment or their breathing problems.

Coronary Heart Disease
Patients with a history of heart disease need to be monitored on at least an annual basis to ensure their risk factors are minimised and treatment optimal.

Diabetic Care
The diabetic review is done by our practice nurse and health care clinician for the care of all diabetics. Patients are reviewed on a recall system and are invited to attend annually.  We monitor blood and urine testing, diet, weight, blood pressure, medication, foot care and education. We also monitor kidney function and cholesterol levels regularly.

Epilepsy
Patients with epilepsy should have a check up in the surgery and/or in hospital outpatients to ensure the control of their condition is optimal.

Hypertension
Patients with high blood pressure ought to have their blood pressure checked 6 monthly and blood tests done annually.

Hypothyroidism
Patients with under-active thyroid should have blood tests annually.

Mental Health
Patients with mental health problems are advised to be reviews at least annually to ensure their mental and physical health problems are taken care of.

Strokes/Mini Strokes
Patients with a history of strokes or mini-strokes should be monitored at least annually to reduce risk factors for further recurrence.

Vaccinations
Vaccination against the flu is advisable for patients with chronic heart disease, lung diseases, diabetes, stroke history and patients over 65 years of age.
The pneumonia vaccine is indicated for over 65 and for younger patients with chronic heart and lung diseases, the immunocompromised and patients without a spleen.
The practice nurses provide a service for these and other travel vaccinations. Please allow adequate time for travel vaccinations and many need to be administered some weeks ahead of the date of travel in order to be effective.

Well-Baby Clinic
Vaccinations and baby checks are undertaken at the surgery by nurses and a doctor respectively.
Health Visitors hold a separate session clinics at Rectory Lane Health Centre, where they offer health advice for you and your child, and weight measurement.
Please remember to bring your child’s red book with you to any appointment.
Vaccinations cannot be given without it.
